At LEWCO, we believe that our people are the organization’s greatest asset! We are proud of our dedicated team of exceptional employees who work hard to support the values of our growing company. We have some pretty remarkable people who have a real passion for they do. So, we thought what better way to show our customers about what life is like inside of LEWCO than to have our own employees share their stories? Read on to meet Senior Applications Engineer, Lou Schaefer!
Lou has been an integral part of the LEWCO team for the past 9 years! When Lou started in June of 2006, he came to LEWCO with an extensive amount of experience. As far back as Lou can remember industrial heating equipment has always been a part of his life. He grew up in the industrial furnace and incineration industry working for the family business.
In 1994, he purchased the business from his father and continued to grow over the next 10 years. In 2004, Lou decided it was time for a change and sold the business. After working for 2 more years in the industry, he accepted a position as an applications engineer on the LEWCO team.
Along with his experience, Lou holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Dayton.
Lou’s main responsibilities as the Senior Applications Engineer include working with customers and prospects to create solutions for their process heating requirements. He supports engineers and production personnel in the design, build, testing, and installation of finished products. Lou is also involved with project management and developing LEWCO’s standard product offering for Industrial Ovens.
What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?
I was always very strong in math and sciences growing up. I really enjoy taking things apart and seeing how they work. It also helped to have a father and grandfather pushing me for engineering to come work for the family business.
Which day of the work week are you the most productive?
I think Tuesday’s are my most productive days because there seems to be fewer meetings to attend.
What kinds of hobbies and interest do you have outside of work?
I still enjoy taking things apart and trying to figure out how to repair, or improve them. I guess that’s the engineer in me. My wife gets mad because I keep broken “stuff” around the house that I swear I can fix, but somehow never get to them. I know many of you know what I am talking about! Other than that I spend a lot of time traveling around the country with my kids for Soccer and Wrestling.
